A fresh new brand identity and website for Cumbrae Oysters, a world renowned exporter of the West Coast of Scotland’s famed seafood.

Established in 1995, Cumbrae Oysters is a family-run company based on the West Coast of Scotland with over 20 years experience in the shellfishing industry. Their company has earned continued success courtesy of their expertise and quality-driven practices. Which has led them to establish an international presence as they supply wholesalers throughout the world, particularly within the East Asian market.

To coincide with Cumbrae Oysters’ continued prosperity, they tasked us with rejuvenating their brand identity to one with a more modern and professional appeal. They had no cohesive image or style in mind within the brief. Only that they wanted a strong and unified brand which could be applied across all company marketing materials, from packaging to livery, with a nod to their heritage.

Cumbrae Oysters. also wanted their Scottish origins to be at the heart of their branding. To allow them to capitalize on the positive brand associations of Scottish produce being highly-sought after and regarded as a benchmark for quality. This Scottish focus provided much more weight to the brand from an international perspective.

With this in mind, we created a colour palette inspired by the golden sands and lush green coastline synonymous to West Kilbride, where the company are based. This allowed us to pay homage to their Scottish roots, and build the brand from there. The new logotype uses a stencil typeface which reflects the fishing industry, ensuring authenticity and a connection to the source of the production. This logotype reinforced Cumbrae Oysters as the oyster farmers which they are, and not a ‘middle man’ in the market chain.

Cumbrae Oysters also wanted a new website to accompany their brand rejuvenation. A website which was easy to use, and capable of communicating who they are and what they offer in a concise and visually appealing way. Underpinned by a simple brand mission, to be seen as a quality supplier of the freshest seafood from the finest seafood producing nation in the world.

The brief was to design a single-scrolling page website, which could present eye-catching and informative content that was simple for users to scan. We added a navigation bar with jump links to different sectors throughout the page, allowing users to access the information they were interested in. With some of this information able to be stored by users for future reference as we added downloadable pdfs. We also consistently utilised the new colour palette to divide the page up into clearly defined sections. Then pulling these sections together with the use of a series of illustrations of their produce. Ensuring that more technical information was broken up into far more digestible snippets in tables.

Cumbrae Oysters were delighted with their new website, as it has been instrumental in directing existing customers and potential new wholesale stockists to them. With the new brand being received very well with consistent positive feedback.
